Eyes Wide Shut

Writer's picture: Yash RajwaniYash Rajwani

On a busy railway platform, amid the sea of vendors shouting and trains rumbling, a man walked with great confidence, his eyes glued to his phone.

He noticed a row of shoe polishers and stopped in front of one, sticking out a foot without looking up. The vendor, smiling to himself, said, “Assi hua, sir.”

Without glancing away from his screen, the man handed over ₹80 with a proud smirk. He looked around, satisfied with himself, and then returned his gaze to his phone.

Curiosity got the best of him, and he finally looked down. Instead of his polished shoe, he saw a weighing scale showing the number "80."

Realization dawned, and his face turned a shade of red that matched the crimson of the train speeding past. The vendor, hiding a chuckle, handed him a receipt for the weighing service. The man, utterly deflated, pocketed his phone and walked away, his arrogance left behind on the platform.
